TERMS & CONDITIONS
Duration & Eligibility
- New Hope for Orang-utan School Programme ends on Monday, 31 August 2009 (“Contest Period”). The Organiser has the right to amend the Contest Period at any time. Late entries will be disqualified.
- The program cum contest is open to all students aged 14 to 17 years old from public and private secondary schools in Malaysia. Staff and family members of BOH Plantations and/or its subsidiaries, suppliers and advertising or promotional agencies are not allowed to participate.
- Participation of the students is solely the responsibility of the parents/ guardians and the Organiser shall not be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances.
Submission of Entries & Qualifying Criteria
- Students need to form a group of up to a maximum of four (4) students. They are also required to register with the Organiser at www.orangutan.com.my with the below information:
- Number of students in the group (max 4)
- Personal details of each group members - name, age, name of school, contact details e.g. telephone number and e-mail address
- If you participate through your school, please provide the name and contact details of your teacher
- Students must design a campaign to create awareness of the Orang-utan Conservation Efforts. Then, organise activities to get their peers to participate in the project. They can use any media e.g. posters, website design, letters, leaflets, murals, packaging, online – facebook, friendster, and ground activities, etc.
Note: Students are not limited to the above media only. They can creatively come up with more ideas on their own. Original ideas score higher points.
- The Organiser will not be held responsible or be involved in any fund raising activities organized by the participants. Any donation or fund raised (if any) must be channeled to WWF directly.
- At the end of the contest period, students need to document the entire project on a blog at www.blogspot.com and send the link of the blog to

before Monday 31 August 2009.
- The blog should contain all the necessary information about the project with the relevant sources, images of collaterals used to promote the activities and details of the activities done. Students are encouraged to dress the blogs with graphics, pictures and animation (if possible).
- The panel of judges will select the top 10 blogs and post them online on www.orangutan.com.my. Members of the public will vote for the best blog. Participants can also get their friends to vote for their blog if their entry is selected as the top 10. The winners will be decided based on public votes and judges’ decision.
- No proof of purchase is required. Incomplete, incorrect or late entries will be disqualified.
- Proof of submission will not be deemed as proof of acceptance. BOH Plantations will not be held responsible for late or missing entries or any error during online submission.
Judging Criteria
- Students will be judged based on three (3) areas:
- Awareness – how effective did they create awareness on:
- The importance of Orang-utan conservation effort
- The issues threatening the existence of Orang-utan
- Activation
- How unique and effective the ground activities are
- How effective were they in getting their school mates or family members to participate and support their project
- Blog
- How attractive and creative the blog is
- How clear the message is and the information gathered
Point System
- Points will be awarded as follows:
- Awareness and activation (50 points)
- Creativity (10%) – authenticity of the idea and how unique it is.
- Content (15%) – the quality of the information gathered.
- Results (25%) - participation level from other students and / or family members in the activities organized and the effectiveness of the project after it has been launched.
- Creativity (25%) – design element and animation (if any) to dress up the blog.
- Content (25%) – the structure, information, clarity of the message, and the impact created.
Prizes
- The prizes for the contest are as follows:
First prize
Trip to Kinabatangan for winning team (4 pax with teacher or guardian)
- 4 x cash prizes RM800
- RM2,000 and 1plaque for the school
Second prize
4 x cash prizes RM500
- RM1,000 and 1plaque for the school
Third prize
- 4 x cash prizes RM300
- RM500 and 1plaque for the school
7 consolation prizes
- 7 x cash prizes of RM100 each
- 7 x plaques for each schools
All students who have submitted their entries will be presented with a certificate from BOH & WWF.
- Winners will be notified via SMS, e-mail or via phone calls in October 2009. The Organiser will not be held liable in the event the winner(s) cannot be contacted for whatever reasons.
- Prizes are to be collected on during the Tea for Trees event in October 2009. All unclaimed prizes will be forfeited. The winners’ list will also be announced in TV9 starting October 2009 and on www.orangutan.com.my.
- The Organiser has the right at its sole discretion to substitute any of the prizes with that of similar value, at any time without prior notice. The values of the prizes are correct at time of printing. All prizes are not exchangeable for credit, other items or vouchers.
- All winners must abide by the T&C of the parties arranging and/or providing for the prizes and the T&C attached to the prizes.
Liability & Responsibility
- All participants shall assume full responsibility for any liability, mishap, injury, damage, claims or accidents (including death) resulting from their participation in this Contest, redemption and/or utilization of the prizes.
- All transportation, accommodation, personal costs and/or any other costs, fees and/or related expenses incurred is the sole responsibility of the participants.
- The Organiser is not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communication line failure, theft or destruction, unauthorized access or alteration of user communications, or any technical malfunctions of telephone network, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of e-mail or traffic congestion on the Internet.
Rights of the Organiser
- The Organiser has the right to use the names and/or photographs of the winners and all other entries submitted for advertising, trade and/or publicity purposes without any prior notice to the winners or participants. All participants shall not be entitled to claim ownership or other forms of compensation on the materials.
- The Organiser reserves the right to modify, suspend or cancel this Contest without notice in the event that it becomes not capable of running as planned, technically interfered or corrupted or any other causes beyond the control of the Organiser, despite the best efforts of the Organiser.
- The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify any participant and withheld the prizes of the winners that are found or suspected of tampering with the Contest submission process & the operations. The Organiser has the right to pursue legal action against any individuals it believes has undertaken fraudulent activities or other activities harmful to this Contest.
- The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entertained.
- By participating in this Contest, participants agree to be bound by this Contest T&C and the decisions of the Organiser.
- In the event of inconsistencies between language versions of the Contest T&C, the English version shall prevail.
